Dr. Nicole Acerra, PhD, earned her psychology and physiotherapy degrees at Queen’s University. After working as a neurological physiotherapist in Canada, the United States and Australia, she completed doctoral studies in neuroplasticity at The University of Queensland and post-doctoral studies at UBC. She has 13 years clinical experience in neurological and vestibular physiotherapy in acute and private practice.
Nicole has taken over 40 post-graduate courses in neurology, orthopaedics, and chronic pain management. Nicole has a special interest in vestibular and facial rehabilitation, concussions, and treating neurological disorders and chronic pain, including the cervical spine (neck), TMJ, and whiplash. She enjoys working closely with patients and families to develop a customised treatment plan, which may include hands-on therapy, home-based exercises, management techniques, and coping skills.
Dr. Acerra provides neurological and vestibular post-graduate courses and teaches at the University of British Columbia as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Nicole has presented her research at World Congresses and published in journals such as Neurology. She is an active member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) and the Vestibular Disorders Association (VEDA). Nicole is the Neurosciences & Spine Clinical Resource Therapist for Vancouver Coastal Health and she provides private physiotherapy.
When not at work, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family and friends road cycling, skiing, hiking, gardening, travelling, reading, and doing yoga.
