About me

Heather McNeil is a registered physiotherapist and yoga instructor. She obtained a Bachelor of Animal Biology with Honours at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops in 2008 and then went on to complete a Master of Science in Physical Therapy at McMaster University in 2012. Throughout high school and her undergraduate degree she rode horses competitively, focusing on hunter/jumpers and then barrel racing.

Heather is certified to practice Acupuncture through Acupuncture Canada and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT). The FCAMPT designation means that she has undertaken extensive additional training to assess and treat the body from a neuromusculoskeletal standpoint. It also means that she is certified to safely adjust a joint if needed. She is a health coach with Pain BC, an initiative in British Columbia to improve self-management of those living in ongoing pain.

Since graduating she has worked primarily with people who have sports injuries, repetitive use injuries, and ongoing pain. She has also spent time working at Kelowna General Hospital with those who have had fractures, joint replacements, and spinal surgeries. Heather uses a variety of treatment techniques in physiotherapy sessions but by far her favourite is empowering you, the patient, to connect with your body’s innate ability to heal.

As an avid yogi since 2008 Heather is a big fan of the physical and emotional/spiritual benefits of the practice. She finds yoga to be amazing to build body awareness and appreciation while the philosophical side is incredibly powerful for building a framework for successful healing/living a healthy lifestyle. In 2014 she took a 200-hour yoga teacher training and has been teaching private and group sessions ever since. She also recently completed a 30-hour yin yoga teacher training in early 2020.

Besides yoga, Heather is an avid runner and hiker. She completed her first trail race last year and is hooked. When she is not in clinic you can find her out on the trails, on her mat, out checking cows, or curled up by the fire with her cat and a good book.
