Elizabeth (Libby) Swain

Libby is a partner of Neuro-Ability Rehabilitation Services. She has over 30 years physiotherapy clinical experience in acute, rehabilitation and private settings spanning 3 different countries, working predominantly in neurological rehabilitation in all phases of the care continuum. Libby trained as a physical therapist in Melbourne, Australia, qualifying in 1986. She studied at Columbia University, New York to complete her masters in Motor Learning and Motor Control, 1989. She qualified as an Advanced IBITA Bobath Instructor, and is also PWR! certified.

Libby settled in Vancouver in 1991. She has worked in private practice neurological rehabilitation since 2005, following 14 years as the Vancouver General Hospital Physiotherapy Neurosciences Clinical Practice Leader. Concurrently Libby has over 18 years consistent involvement with UBC Physical Therapy Program in various capacities, and is currently a Clinical Instructor. Libby is a co-founding member of the Canadian Bobath Instructors Association. She instructs clinical education courses nationally and internationally.

Libby is involved in a number of international and national inter-disciplinary and physiotherapy-specific committees and initiatives pertinent to neurological rehabilitation and the education of healthcare professionals. She has chaired the International Bobath Instructors Association (IBITA), the Canadian Physiotherapy Neurosciences Division, and the Neurosciences Division Specialization Working Group. She loves outdoor pursuits for her recreation.
