I am a Professor at the Department of Physical Therapy, UBC. In the MPT program, I teach core concepts about nociception, pain, and tissue injury-repair.
My research is targeting new treatments for tendinopathy and chronic musculoskeletal pain. I also research mechanotransduction in human tendon cells, and helped coin the phrase "mechanotherapy." My research group is using the insights from cell biology to try and develop novel, clinically relevant tendon rehab programs, such as rest-inserted isometric loading.
I am very proud to help run the Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapy, an innovative new course for practicing physios who want to deepen their knowledge of musculoskeletal PT. It features renowned clinician-educators, and a coordinated program of part-time learning leading to advanced certification.
I love physiotherapy, and am so happy to be able to focus on research, teaching, and advocacy, and to be part of such an engaged and energized community of physios here in Beautiful BC.
