Pessary Fitting for Urinary Incontinence and Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The science and art!

Learn the science and the art of pessary fitting! This course covers the use of and instruction on how to assess for and fit pessaries for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. The different types of pessaries, how they work and what they remedy are covered.  How to assess your patient, identify the best pessary in terms of size and type, and then assess for accurateness of fit and function are all included in this 2-day course.  Patient education, pessary follow up and infection control are also covered.  Instruction on how to screen for low estrogen, vulvar skin and vaginal pain conditions for proper referral and/or treatment is also included. Course participants will participate in the lab/practical session which involves perineal, vaginal and/or rectal examination and insertion and wearing of pessaries. 

This course is targeted to the health care professional who is comfortable assessing for urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse based on patient description of symptoms, visual observation of the perineum and digital vaginal and rectal exam. The use of speculums will be introduced in the course.  

Class size is limited to ensure optimum learning, practice, and translation of skill. The course participant will leave the course equipped with the knowledge on how to include fitting pessaries within their practice. 

Course participants also receive 1/2 day clinical shadow opportunity OR a 1-hour scheduled on-line consult with course instructor within 3 months of course completion.
