At the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC), we understand the significance of National Truth and Reconciliation Day, which serves as a powerful reminder of the historical injustices faced by Indigenous peoples in Canada. As an organization dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of all British Columbians, we are committed to acknowledging the importance of this day and actively participating in the process of learning, understanding, and reconciliation.
We encourage our members and partners to join us in reflecting on this important day and taking meaningful actions to support Indigenous communities across British Columbia. Together, we can build a future that is characterized by understanding, healing, and unity.
We firmly believe that words must be followed by actions, and in that spirit, we encourage our members, partners, and colleagues to join us in taking meaningful steps to support Indigenous communities across British Columbia.
Here are some actions you can take to contribute to the journey of reconciliation:
- Enroll in the University of Alberta’s Indigenous Canada course, a 12-lesson Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that explores Indigenous histories and contemporary issues in Canada.
- Support the Indian Residential School Survivor Society (IRSSS), a provincial organization that has been providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support for survivors for 20 years.
- Watch this video and Start a conversation with those around you about reconciliation.
In the spirit of reconciliation.
