The New WorkSafeBC Contract

WorkSafeBC Contract

You may be aware that PABC has been working with WorkSafeBC (WSBC) for some time in regards to an updated contract that speaks to the needs of our members, the wider physiotherapy industry, and those who have been injured in the workplace.

WSBC has shown a keen interest in strengthening their partnership with physiotherapists across the province. To that end, they have released surveys over the last year in an attempt to gauge feedback from their physiotherapy providers.

We believe that the changes made in this new contract serve as a direct response to that feedback and to the feedback that you also provided to PABC. With that in mind, we offer a big thank you to all those that took part and shared their thoughts.

The key takeaways that you will see in the updated contract are as follows:

  • A return to a fee-for-service model instead of block funding
  • Raising the fee per visit to $83
  • Simplifying the application process and fee schedule
  • A stipulation that current contract holders will NOT need to submit a new application

In our discussions with WSBC, they have made it clear that they want to ensure that workers have access to physiotherapy when and where they need it, and that they’re receiving the best care available. We feel that this updated contract and the significant investment in the physiotherapy profession recognize the value of your work in helping injured workers return to health and employment safely.

PABC is thankful for having had the opportunity to collaborate on this contract with WSBC and we look forward to continued collaboration and partnership as we all move forward.

What happens now?

  • WSBC will be publishing the contract on worksafebc.com on March 30th, 2022.
  • WSBC will host an information session on April 6, 2022, which you can register for here.

This info session will further highlight the upcoming changes and will give you the opportunity to have your questions answered. If you cannot attend on that day, it will be recorded and made available for viewing after the event.
