ICBC new treatment plan

Here are the important updates related to Enhanced Care coverage and treatment plans. Please review the following sections for details:

In June 2023, ICBC will be introducing further changes which will not allow you to continue with your invoice submissions if one or more of the treatments do not fit within an approved plan. You must submit a new treatment plan for invoices with these treatments in order for it to be accepted for review.

Join an Informed Care Working Group: ICBC invites healthcare partners to apply for our research advisory board or implementation committee. These working groups will play a vital role in informing the development of care expectations and guidelines, as well as supporting the implementation process. To apply, please email here by Friday, June 30, and provide details on how you meet the required criteria. Full details can be found in the Informed Care Framework for working groups.

New Treatment Plan Templates: ICBC has introduced new treatment plan templates, which are now available for use. If you have any old templates saved and submit manually, please replace them, as we will no longer accept the old template after June 23. If you use the Health Care Provider Invoicing and Reporting (HCPIR) or Health Care Provider Portal (HCPP) to submit, you will automatically see the new templates when you log in. Access the new Physical Treatment Template here:

Changes to Invoicing Process: Starting in January 2023, a warning message appeared if one or more treatments on an invoice did not fit within the approved volume of treatments or treatment end date. While invoices could still be submitted, even if they were outside an approved plan, ICBC will be implementing further changes in June 2023. With these changes, invoices with treatments that do not fit within an approved plan will not be allowed for submission. In order to have your invoice accepted for review, you must submit a new treatment plan for these treatments. Please ensure that approval is obtained before initiating or continuing treatment, as per the approved treatment plan.

Understanding Treatment Plans: Treatment plans are essential for documenting a customer's recovery progress and the functional outcomes that can be achieved with further treatment. By submitting treatment plans, practitioners enable ICBC claim representatives to make timely and informed benefit decisions. It is encouraged to proactively submit treatment plans as soon as it is determined that the customer will require additional care beyond the early access treatment period.

Treatment Plan Requirements: Treatment plans must include the following information:

  • Functional progress made to date and functional or return-to-work goals to be achieved through additional treatments.
  • Active interventions planned to achieve the listed recovery goals.
  • Other factors that may contribute to the patient's recovery.

Treatment Plan Submission: Treatment plans should be submitted using the Health Care Provider Portal (HCPP) or the Health Care Provider Invoicing and Reporting (HCPIR) application.

If you prefer to submit a treatment plan outside of the HCPP or HCPIR application, please complete the fillable form provided on the right sidebar and submit it to the appropriate email address based on your specialization.  Physiotherapists: physiotherapists@icbc.com
