About me

Johnny Yiu, MPT, BHK, FCAMPT, CGIMS, MCPA

Johnny completed his Masters of Physiotherapy in 2009 at the University of British Columbia (UBC) where he earned several awards for both clinical and academic distinction.  From his clinical experiences and his exposure in athletics, Johnny has developed a keen interest in sport injuries, pre and post surgical rehabilitation, paediatrics, injuries related to working professionals, and injury prevention.

Johnny's treatment approach blends hands-on manual therapy, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), exercise prescription, and client education. He has achieved the highest orthopaedic level through the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) and has advanced training and clinical abilities in manual and manipulative therapy. FCAMPT physiotherapists undergo extensive training in the area of orthopaedics and hands-on therapy which helps people recover faster and stay healthier in returning to pain-free living. Johnny also has advanced training with sport related injuries, particularly in Baseball, Golf (Titleist Performance Institute) and Tennis.

As a UBC Varsity Baseball alumnus, his passion lies in sports; Johnny is very interested in working with athletes from all sporting backgrounds and educating clients on the prevention of sport-related injuries. Each year, Johnny mentors and supervises UBC Master of Physical Therapy students as a Teaching Assistant and Clinical Advisor.

Johnny is a dedicated, hardworking and engaging physiotherapist. In his spare time, you will find him at local community events, providing medical coverage and playing a variety of different sports, including tennis, golf, baseball, basketball, running and cycling. His continual passion for an active lifestyle has given Johnny an understanding of the importance of sport and activity in people’s lives, and the importance of getting clients back to participating in the activities they are passionate about.
