Remote Rehab Physiotherapy

Virtual Care / Telehealth

Remote Rehab is committed to challenging geographical boundaries while recognizing the significance of culturally safe care in telehealth, particularly in Northern & Rural BC communities. Embracing diversity and understanding the specific needs of each community is at the core of our telehealth approach. We strive to foster a healthcare experience that is inclusive, respectful, and tailored to the cultural nuances of rural British Columbia.

Physiotherapy is progressing more into active therapy as the primary approach of ethical and evidence based care, while moving away from passive therapy. Passive therapy includes hands-on treatments and other interventions where the patient does not participate. Utilizing active therapy in chronic pain management, concussion & vestibular care, post-surgical rehab, musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries, cardiopulmonary health, and aging populations is the cornerstone of Remote Rehab’s philosophy through telehealth physiotherapy.

Telehealth Physiotherapy encourages self-management leading to less work-load on medical professionals, improved equity in access to care, and diminished environmental impact through travel. Individuals can benefit from physiotherapy assessment and exercise programming to aid with falls prevention (including dizziness causing falls), cardiovascular and pulmonary health, as well as diminished mobility. Telerehabilitation can also be effective for patients with chronic back pain, arthritis and pre/rehabilitation involving surgical procedures. Some of our therapists have special interests and further education in concussion rehabilitation, vestibular therapy (BPPV, dizziness, vertigo), sports injuries and Indigenous health.

Remote Rehab utilizes online platforms in innovative ways through publicly & privately funded care models. In some cases having a rehab assistant or another person on the other end to improve patient safety and well-being, while other cases are completely accessible solo with a computer, web-cam and stable internet.

We are largely connected with the physiotherapy community across British Columbia, including UBC’s Masters of Physical Therapy program & staff. Our recruitment strategy utilizes the desirability of living in urban centers, working from home, and providing quality care to underserved communities.

The College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia has clear Virtual Care Standards, which are followed closely by our therapists, and can be found here: https://cptbc.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/CPTBC_Standards_2024_VirtualCare.pdf
