News - Fibromyalgia

This systematic review shows evidence of the effectiveness of therapeutic exercise for fibromyalgia.

Authors suggest that muscle strengthening and aerobic exercise are most effective in reducing the pain and severity of the disease. Stretching and aerobic exercise produce the biggest improvements in quality of life. Combined exercise is the most effective way of reducing symptoms of depression. Although there is still no consensus, it seems that 2 or 3 sessions of mild to moderate intensity physical activity lasting 30–45 minutes each are effective.

The authors recommend aerobic exercise 2 or 3 times per week to decrease the pain and severity of fibromyalgia symptoms, including depression.
