Join Shenda Tanchak (consultant and former registrar of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario) and CPTBC staff as they share details about the CPTBC's new Supervision Toolkits - one for supervisors and one for interim registrants/supervisees. This project has been eighteen months in development and involved focus groups with supervisors and interim registrants, two nation-wide surveys, an environmental scan, and a pilot process with registrants who volunteered to test the Toolkits and provide valuable feedback. The Toolkits include a series of online modules as well as written resources to support both players in the supervisory relationship.
We know that supervision is one of the ways experienced physical therapists give back to their profession, and it’s often critical to the development of those on the threshold of registration. There is always more to learn about how to be a better supervisee or how better to offer supervisory support. And with COVID-19-related delays to administration of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam, some supervisors and interim registrants are spending longer together than in previous years. The Toolkits can be used to enhance and refresh the relationship and help you get the most out of your time together. Among other things, the resources include a review of a supervisor's regulatory obligations, a template for a supervision contract, a feedback form, a questionnaire designed to guide conversations about gaps in knowledge and preferred approaches to giving and receiving feedback.
Meet the Speaker
Shenda Tanchak
Shenda has worked in professional regulation for more than 25 years. She was Registrar of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario from 2012 to 2018. During this period, she chaired a variety of provincial and national organizations. Before going to the Physiotherapists, Shenda had been Senior Advisor to the Executive Office at the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario.
Two years ago, Shenda launched a consulting practice. She works mainly with regulators of professionals and related organizations. She helps organizations develop policy and programs, as well as to develop strategic plans, forge collaborative partnerships with other organizations, and restructure internal governance.
Shenda Tanchak is a non-practicing member of the Law Society of Ontario. She has a Bachelor of Education degree as well as training in advertising and public relations. She is also a member of a couple of Boards that have nothing to do with regulation. She currently seems to be operating a home for geriatric house pets.
