Starting physiotherapy after cancer – or any major illness or injury – can make a remarkable difference in recovery. It has for Darren, a bright young boy and football player from Surrey B.C. who began physiotherapy with PABC member Chiara Singh, clinical supervisor for physiotherapy at Surrey Memorial Hospital, after his surgery and chemotherapy for a brain tumour. This is their story.

When Darren began physiotherapy with Chiara, he couldn’t walk or move his right arm. Today, he’s throwing a football and learning to run again – always with a big smile on his face, and a dream of playing football again.

Physiotherapists are university trained medical professionals that work closely and in collaboration with doctors and other health care professionals to ensure optimum patient health and recovery.

Therapists like Chiara work with doctors, patients and families to put together a treatment plan for their condition or injury that includes their recovery and function goals, so that they can get back to enjoying life and the activities they love.
