As a recovery and return-to-work specialist with WorkSafeBC, you’ll make a difference in the lives of working people across British Columbia. You’ll establish and maintain caring, compassionate, and professional working relationships with injured workers to support their recovery to an early and successful return to work.
What you’ll do
As part of a team in Return-to-Work Services you’ll:
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized return-to-work plans that bridge the gap between the workers’ abilities and the job demands
- Visit worksites to assess job demands
- Collaborate with health care providers and others to assist in the development of recovery and return to work plans
- Weigh evidence and interpret policy to determine workers’ eligibility for benefits
- Authorize appropriate diagnostic referrals and consultations
- Develop supportive, collaborative, and respectful relationships with workers, employers, and health care providers
- Educate workers, worker representative groups, employers, industry groups, and health care providers about strategies for returning to work and managing disabilities
Is this a good fit for you?
We’re looking for people who can:
- Demonstrate knowledge of occupational health and disability management principles, including return-to-work planning
- Demonstrate care and compassion while building relationships and developing effective recovery and return-to-work plans
- Make timely, independent decisions by applying law and policy to a set of complicated and challenging facts that address benefit, medical management, and employability issues
- Record, explain, and present detailed and complex information orally and in writing
- Apply organizational and decision-making skills to manage a high-volume caseload
Your experience and educational background
- A university degree in a related discipline such as disability management, health sciences, kinesiology, nursing, occupational therapy or physiotherapy
- A minimum of two years of work experience that includes disability management activities and return-to-work planning
- A valid B.C. driver’s license
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered such as a degree or diploma in disability management, designation as a Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), or a Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP).
