In this one day course you will learn the principles and spirt of Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a way of empowering your clients to make change in their lives and can be used in many situations. You will practice these conversations throughout the course and become proficient as a facilitator of change. The focus will be on helping clients find internal motivation for change through empathy with the client's situation, acknowledgment of how difficult making life change is, and client- oriented goal setting.

Course Objectives:

  1. Learn how to identify a patient's stage of change.
  2. Learn what common approaches keep patients "stuck" and what easy to use questions create momentum for change.
  3. Learn how to share advice/information in a way that builds motivation for change.

This course is a compliment to the PABC- Hosted Boundaries and Mirroring as Essential Non-Verbal Skills in Effective Biopsychosocial Communication Course being held on Sunday September 29, 2019 at Lifemark West Kelowna. These two courses are meant to be taken together and will focus on building skills learned from the other course. They are not the same course. Different skills will be learned in each course. Please register separately for each course. Please note there are only 18 spots open for the September 29, 2019 course and 30 spots open for the September 28, 2019 course so please sign up early.
