Fascial Manipulation® is a manual therapy method that has been developed by Luigi Stecco, an Italian physiotherapist from the north of Italy. This method has evolved over the last 40 years through study and practice in the treatment of a vast caseload of musculoskeletal problems.

It focuses on the fascia, in particular the deep muscular fascia, including the epimysium and the retinacula and considers that the myofascial system is a three-dimensional continuum. Initially, via collaboration with the Anatomy Faculties of the René Descartes University, Paris, France and the University of Padova in Italy, and more recently, with a host of different collaborations, Dr. Carla Stecco and Dr. Antonio Stecco have carried out extensive research into the anatomy and histology of the fascia via dissection of unembalmed cadavers. These dissections have enhanced the pre-existing biomechanical model already elaborated by Luigi Stecco  by providing new histological and anatomical data. This method presents a complete biomechanical model that assists in deciphering the role of fascia in musculoskeletal disorders.

The mainstay of this manual method lies in the identification of specific, localised areas of the fascia in connection with a specific limited movement. Once a limited or painful movement is identified, then a specific point on the fascia is implicated and, through the appropriate manipulation of this precise part of the fascia, movement can be restored. The course provides theory and practical work, the assessment process of the deep fascia, using history of injury and of physical compensation, movement and palpation, and then treatment based on the above. The participant will have the knowledge to apply this technique on completion of the course.

Instructor: Cheryl Megalos PT

Cheryl completed her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of British Columbia, in 1994. She has had  training in manipulative therapy through the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy, commenced after graduation. After instruction in Intramuscular Stimulation with Dr Chan Gunn (GIMS), she became certified to practise IMS in 2007.
Fascial Manipulation(FM) became a clinical interest in 2010, and she started her training in Thiene, Italy in June 2010. Cheryl has had ongoing instruction Fascial Manipulation addressing with musculoskeletal assessment and treatment, since 2010,and when taught in english she has studied Fascial Manipulation for Internal Dysfunction three times, and received her FM teacher's certification in 2015. While in Italy she has had the pleasure and honour of learning from the "Family Stecco:" Luigi Stecco PT; Dr Carla Stecco MD; and Dr Antonio Stecco MD. Recently she returned from a Winter Workshop-Fascial Anatomy- Cadaver(unembalmed) dissection, ultrasound imagery and biomechanics at the University of Padova, Italy. Currently, she is teaching Fascial Manipulation workshops and Level I and II courses in Canada and internationally.

This is a six day course which gives the latest research on the anatomy, physiology of the fascia and the Stecco Method. Further information on the Fascial Manipulation course levels is attached.
