WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE?

This 4-day evidence-based, hands-on workshop taught by leaders in the field of female incontinence and pelvic floor rehabilitation is oriented towards physiotherapists with an interest in women’s health.

Take advantage of this opportunity to expand your scope of practice in providing primary care for women with incontinence, a growing health issue affecting 1 in 3 women

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Understand female pelvic floor anatomy and pathophysiology related to incontinence
  • Acquire skills to perform a functional assessment of the pelvic floor and pelvic organ prolapse
  • Learn to identify the different types of incontinence, prolapse and other pelvic floor dysfunctions in women
  • Acquire the ability to develop and teach an evidence-based treatment plan specific to the patient’s needs
  • Learn when and how to progress pelvic floor muscle training
  • Understand the use of EMG and electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor

Limited to 24 participants

This course includes lab time where participants will practice internal pelvic floor muscle assessments and treatment techniques on each other

The course includes an evaluation of both knowledge and practical skills

A certificate will be issued upon completion

Pat and Penny started the Continence Clinic at BC Women’s Health Centre in 1995 and have treated thousands of women with urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.  Together they have many years of experience in the area of women’s health.  They have taught at many workshops and conferences both for healthcare professionals and the public.  They are involved in research and in developing a national certification program for physiotherapists in the area of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Suzanne works in Cranbrook , treating men and women with pelvic pain and dysfunction, and bowel and bladder control issues as well as orthopedic conditions.
